The Ultimate Kabuki Experience: A Fusion of Tradition and Trend
Kabuki, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, originated about 400 years ago during Japan’s Edo period, around the same time Shakespeare emerged in England and opera began in Italy. “Ka” stands for music, “Bu” for dance, and “Ki” for acting. As a modern drama of the Edo period, Kabuki quickly became immensely popular among the masses. Designed for the general public, Kabuki incorporated contemporary customs and trends to make it easily understandable to everyone.
At Motenas Japan, we offer a special Kabuki Experience tailored for foreign VIPs, allowing them to immerse themselves in this traditional Japanese performing art in a private and luxurious setting. Enjoy a performance rich in history and culture, right before your eyes.

Kabuki Experience: Plans
PLAN1
Kagami Jishi
Watch “Kagami Jishi,” one of the most popular Kabuki performances.
From the lavish dressing scene to the essence of Kabuki dance, this plan offers a rich experience of one of Kabuki’s finest performances.
PLAN2
Sukeroku
“Sukeroku,” one of the Kabuki Jūhachiban, is portrayed in a vibrant and dynamic dance performance as he approaches the Miuraya lattice.
While the classic “Sukeroku” is performed with Kato-bushi music, the dance version is accompanied by Nagauta music.
It was first performed in 1792 at Nakamuraza by the fourth generation Nakamura Utaemon as part of an eight-part dance series. The performance captures the lively and colorful character of Sukeroku, blending softness with a touch of wildness.
PLAN3
Tenariko
This performance depicts an Edo-era town girl returning from temple school, playing in the warm spring sun, and chasing butterflies.
The dance portrays the girl, still young enough to wear a kimono with shoulder pads, dancing about love like an adult, which only enhances her charm. Her innocent yet mature dance, capturing the delicate balance between childhood and adulthood, is sure to captivate you.
Originally performed in 1792 at Kawarazaki-za as part of a seven-part dance series, the piece later became known as “Tenariko.”
